Qualitative interview focus fellow/trainee

Support research-oriented activities for clinical trials for COVID-19 and HIV treatment and

prevention in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Columbia Research Unit (CRU) and

PrEP Working Group. The aim of this project is to understand attitudes and preferences

regarding HIV prevention modalities and barriers to uptake of HIV prevention and testing

modalities among women, young men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals.

- Clinical research can encompass a wide variety of activities from patient-related bench

research, to chart reviews, to epidemiologic studies, to qualitative studies (including

focus groups). Learn about key aspects of conducting clinical research, starting with

conducting informed consent discussions with participants who may participate in

qualitative interviews and focus groups

- Assist with development of focus group materials, scheduling, and recruiting for focus

groups and in-depth qualitative interviews

- Conduct qualitative interviews to understand attitudes and preferences regarding HIV

prevention modalities

- Bright, self-motivated, outgoing, well-organized

- Able to work fluidly with a multidisciplinary group of researchers

- Able to converse comfortably with a range of individuals from diverse backgrounds

- Completed at least two semesters of Biology coursework

- Experience or coursework in qualitative interviewing

- Spanish language fluency preferred
